ADHD Evaluation for Children & Adolescents

Ages 4-17

A central goal of our ADHD Evaluation is to clarify whether attention, focus, or behavioral concerns are the result of ADHD, another underlying condition, or a combination of factors. Using a comprehensive testing battery, we identify — or rule out — Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), along with related concerns in learning, memory, executive functioning, and processing speed that often look similar on the surface. Because ADHD frequently overlaps with other conditions, a thorough evaluation gives families and referring providers a clear, evidence-based diagnosis and a concrete plan for home, school, and treatment support.

Why a comprehensive ADHD evaluation?

ADHD rarely exists in isolation. Because the brain's attention networks are closely tied to memory, language, learning, and executive functioning, a brief rating scale or short screening might only tell part of the story. Our evaluations include a full cognitive (IQ) battery, academic achievement testing, and in-depth measures of executive functioning — skills like planning, working memory, and self-control — alongside attention-specific measures.

This broader picture helps clarify whether inattention or hyperactivity stems from ADHD, a co-occurring learning disorder, anxiety, giftedness paired with under-stimulation, or some combination of these — each of which points to a different plan. The result is a clearer diagnosis and more precise, individualized recommendations, rather than a one-size-fits-all label.

What to Expect

Our ADHD evaluations are thorough and tailored to your child's specific concerns. Here's what the process looks like:

  • Clinical Interview

We gather detailed background information from parents or caregivers to understand the history and context of your child's attention, behavioral, or academic concerns.

  • Neuropsychological Testing

Standardized tests assess attention, memory, executive functioning, language, and processing speed, giving us a full picture of how your child's brain is working — not just whether they can sit still.

  • Assessment of Psychological Functioning

We screen for conditions that commonly co-occur with or mimic ADHD, including anxiety, depression, and disruptive behavior disorders such as ODD.

  • Collateral Information

Parents, teachers, and other providers complete standardized behavior ratings, and we review available school and medical records, to understand how your child functions across different settings — not just in one room on one day.

  • Feedback Session

We walk you through the results in plain language and provide a written plan of specific recommendations for home, school, and — if appropriate — medical or therapeutic support.
