Young Adult Neuropsychological Assessments

Ages 18-22

The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a critical period filled with unique challenges. At Springboard Neuropsychological Assessments, we provide comprehensive evaluations to help young adults understand their cognitive and emotional needs. Our goal is to identify strengths and challenges, supporting academic, social, and career goals.

In adults, an injury or abnormality may result in an overt, immediately notable functional impact. However, in children with neurodevelopmental disorders and acquired injuries, the full range of deficits may not be apparent until later developmental stages. As demands for specific social, academic, or independent functioning behaviors increase, these deficits can become more evident. This is why neuropsychological assessments during young adulthood (ages 18-22) are crucial.

Common Clinical Populations

Our young adult neuropsychological assessments are beneficial for young adults with a variety of conditions, including: Traumatic Brain Injury (Mild to Severe); Epilepsy; Neurodevelopmental Disorders (e.g., ADHD, Learning Disorder, Autism); Cancer/Brain Tumors; Genetic/Chromosomal Disorders; Spina Bifida/Hydrocephalus; Prematurity/Cerebral Palsy’ Stroke; Congenital Heart Disease; and Prenatal Neurotoxin Exposure (e.g., FAS).

Our young adult neuropsychological assessments are designed to provide a detailed understanding of cognitive and emotional functioning.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Clinical Interview

We gather detailed background information from the young adult and, if applicable, their parents or guardians.

  • Neuropsychological Testing

We use standardized tests to assess cognitive domains such as memory, attention, executive function, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the patient will complete standardized ratings of psychological and behavioral status.

  • Assessment of Psychological Functioning

We also screen for co-occurring conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other psychiatric concerns including OCD, disruptive behavior disorders, or personality disorders.

  • Collateral Information

If available, I analyze previous medical, neuropsychological, and educational records to provide context. I have also tailored specific intake questionnaires for the young adult's parents to understand early developmental history and current concerns from their perspective.

  • Feedback Session

We discuss the findings and provide recommendations for interventions, accommodations, and support.
